Baby girl during her newborn photo session in Manchester
First time out
This is probably the first time when you are leaving the house with your newborn baby. What to bring to your newborn session? It can be a bit overwhelming to get ready for the session. How can such a little baby require so many things? Newborn photoshoots typically take place within the first two weeks after the baby is born when there is a lot going on. It’s easy to forget everything you may need for your session so today’s post will help prevent that!
Important essentials for the newborn sessions
Nappies and wet wipes
First of all, You don’t need to bring anything heavy. We have a nice changing mat, which is soft and comfortable. For your baby please bring some extra nappies, more than you would normally use in the morning, just in case they are having a day, where they are going through lots of nappies, or we have a few accidents. You don’t need to bring wipes or nappy bags, we have them in our studio.
What to wear
You don’t need to bring any special clothes for the baby to wear. As you could see in my portfolio, I use lots of blankets and wraps to photograph your baby, I provide all of them Our Manchester newborn photography studio is usually quite warm to keep the babies comfortable even when they are naked so please wear layers. It is always boiling hot during newborn photography sessions. When preparing your newborns for the session in the morning, please dress them in loose clothing to avoid any imprints on their delicate skin. You might need an extra set of clothes for older children, just in case there might be any accidents.
Makeup
You might want to bring some makeup so that you can touch it up or put it on just before I take those photographs.
Keep baby calm during the newborn session
Dummies
When posing the baby between the posing bed, props and family set-ups they can become a bit fussy, and using dummies is the perfect way to comfort them, so I always recommend and encourage a dummy – even if it is the only time you use a dummy. It will help make the shoot go more smoothly.
Feeding
If you are bottle-feeding, please bring a few extra feeds, and make sure your baby is well fed prior to coming to the studio. Bring all of the necessary equipment for two feedings. Sessions can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours depending on the type of session you book. What to bring to your newbron session, if your baby is awake? When you arrive in the studio I may ask you to feed him or her before beginning the session. A full belly helps a newborn stay sleepy for their shoot.

Food and snacks
Although I offer biscuits and mineral water during our session it is always a good idea to bring your favourite snacks with you, especially if you are coming with small children. The bespoke sessions can take up to 4 hours and the little tummies might feel hungry or even hangry during this time.
Entertainment
If older siblings are participating in the session please bring their favourite toys, books, or maybe a tablet with you. I offer free wifi in the studio so bringing a gadget to watch their beloved cartoons/programs are always welcome.
Newborn props, what to bring to your newborn session?
I love all of my vendors and carefully select my props. Before every session, I plan and design everything, based on your colour scheme and preferences. I have a wide range of beautiful hand-made props to choose from. What to bring to your newborn session? Should you bring any props? If you have something of sentimental value, that you would like me to include in one or two photographs, please bring them, and also please let me know in advance so that I may plan for it during the shoot and we can discuss how you would like it included.
Making memories
Overall, my top priority is the security of your baby. I always make sure that the newborn session is a relaxed, comfortable, and unforgettable experience for the whole family, that you will remember for years to come. If you have any questions regarding what to bring to your newborn sessision, or concerns never hesitate to reach out. Newborns are only teeny tiny for a short time and a newborn session is a perfect way to create and capture these precious memories. My Manchester newborn studio is a special place where amazing memories are made.
Your newborn baby photo session will be an amazing experience. We can’t wait to meet your beautiful family and take images of your little one.
