NEWBORN SESSION INFORMATION
Why to choose a professional?
A common thought, is that a “good camera” is all that is needed to take a professional quality photographs. While a camera is an important tool in the process, it’s no replacement for the hundreds of hours professionals have spent learning and perfecting their craft. Your memories are worth the investment in a photographer who will capture your family as they deserve in photos will last a lifetime.
Newborn sessions are my joy. Those brand new little lives are amazing and photographing them genuinely makes my day. I spend some time every day learning to perfect my craft. Hopefully this little guide will help you to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Newborn sessions typically take place between 6-10 days old; under two weeks is ideal. During this time newborns tend to be sleepier and easier to pose. This will ensure that your baby responds to my soothing and posing techniques, that they still have a true newborn look, they are very sleepy and are still curly. if you want to get more information about the session, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Info about planning ahead
When considering hiring a photographer, it is CRUCIAL to plan ahead. Availability is limited, so it is important to reserve your date as soon as possible once you decide to book. A non-refundable deposit will secure your date. For newborns, booking in advance is especially critical as they should be photographed within ten days of birth for a posed session. A newborn session date is always tentative until baby is born. More scheduling details will be provided upon booking.

WE GIVE YOU
NOT ONLY PICTURES
Lifestyle newborn session at your home
The session takes place in the client’s home, preferably in the nursery, master bedroom, and living room. We can also take some photos outdoors if the weather permits (ideal for spring and summer due dates!). Do not worry about your house being a mess—you just had a baby! All you need to do to prepare is open the blinds/curtains to let in as much light as possible. I’ll quickly push things out of the area I’m shooting so that your home will appear to be spotless in the photos. Don’t be surprised if I move some furniture around, I’m just working to get the best light in your home. I’ll put it all back where it was! 🙂 The only thing I will ask you to do is have your bed made with a neutral quilt. Your bed makes for a great place for cuddly family photos! The workflow and posing different from the studio session, trying to give back the atmosphere of your home, the happiness of your baby’s arrival!
Each session can be as unique as the sweet new life we photograph. Our newborn sessions are typically neutral based with hints of colour. Because we encourage new parents to proudly display finished products from their session in their home, feel free to let us know about any particular colour schemes that will work best. We want to love your photographs! Each client is able to take advantage of a complementary pre-session consultation to personally style your session according to your design needs. For more information, just ask!
Preparing for Your Session
An average newborn session lasts about three hours. This ensures time for feeding, changing, and keeping baby comfortable while we photograph. If you have requested family and/or sibling photographs, we will do that first. Once family and sibling photos are complete, it is best to have another adult entertain the siblings in another room while we finish the baby’s session free of distractions.

What to bring?
Dummy – The soothie. I encourage you to bring one to your session if you use one. The short amount of time we will be using one shouldn’t effect habit-forming behavior for your baby. The most important for me to keep the baby happy and relaxed during the whole session.
Extra bottles– Whether you are nursing or bottle feeding, having extra bottles and milk is suggested. Some babies tend to eat more
than usual during their photo sessions, with the studio being very warm it is their hydration also. It is best to be prepared. Feel free to bring food for yourself as well.
Props– I have many props that you can see on my website, many baskets, blankets, wraps,hats..etc. If you liked to personalize your session and bring fun personal items that represents you or your hobby, please feel free. Just let me know in advance so i can plan in advance.
Enjoy the moment!
Once you arrive I will set up my lights, blankets and props and I give you some time to feed the baby. As soon as baby is happy and sleepy we can get started. During your session, I will pose and handle your baby with the utmost care. There is no need to worry if you are not feeling 100% yet, I will soothe, swaddle and ensure baby is kept happy. I also have a small heater and white noise.
If the baby is very alert, I will swaddle the baby to get some photos, and use the parents as a prop, holding the baby over the shoulder or in your arms. A fussy baby almost always settles down when held by mom or dad. I encourage all of my parents to take part in the session. I love capturing relational type photos with moms, dads and siblings. A typical newborn session will last approximately three hours. During this time, I will be carefully posing and soothing the baby, to ensure he or she is comfortable at all times. We normally start with individual photos of just baby on the beanbag then move on to family photos. Here, I aim to get at least 3-4 poses, as well as details shots of fingers, toes, face, etc. If we have time, we will end with photos in a basket or on a rug.
